About Painted Agency
Painted Agency is the gallery of three families of work. The Agency galleries, Southwest and Pastel, Western, Sun and Sky, City Posters and 29 more, make our own editions for the traditional room. The Provenance houses, The Picture Palace, The Regatta, Best in Show, The Paddock and 20 more, restore public-domain works and name the institution that holds each original: Private collection, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Library of Congress, Prints & Photographs Division and The Art Institute of Chicago, among others. The Painted studios, Feverglass, Thunder Lizards, Painted Zodiac, Nightfables and 4 more, each paint one subject.
Nothing Here Is Anyone Else’s
Every piece on this site was made or restored by one of our own studios or houses, and every one sells here, in one cart. No outside seller lists work on Painted Agency, and no other studio’s work is sold under ours.
Every Size, Checked First
Before a size is offered, the file behind it is measured at that size: its resolution, how much of the picture a frame would crop, and its tone and colour. A size the file cannot hold is not offered, and the piece’s page says why. Of 3,351 pieces in the catalogue today, 2,572 have passed at one size or more.
Some pieces stop at 18 x 24 in, because that is as far as the file goes. How the print check works.
How the Studios Paint
The Painted studios paint with software as well as by hand, and the family’s own admission stands: most AI art doesn’t resonate with us either. The Provenance houses work the other way round, from the original outward, restoring what the museums and libraries have already released to the public.
No living painter is named in a prompt, a title or a caption here, nor any painter who died after 1955. Travel posters name their tradition, the golden-age airline poster or the Swiss resort poster, and never an airline, a hotel or a railway.
