Goldsmith Maid, driven by Budd Doble, beating Lucy in three straight heats at Buffalo on the eleventh of August, 1871. Doble made Goldsmith Maid the sport's dominant name for a decade, and Currier & Ives printed her rival's name into the title itself — beating Lucy was the whole caption. Doble's hands held low and still, a driver trusting the mare more than the whip. The queen's crown is stitched from other mares' losses.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
