The carillon in perspective: a pinned barrel the size of a wine cask, reading its tune the way a music box does, hammers poised over their bells. The Encyclopédie's engravers loved these perspective views because they show what a parts diagram cannot — the machine as a presence, something you could walk around. This is horology at architectural scale, the same escapement logic that fits in a pocket here filling a room, and it remains one of the handsomest machine engravings of the eighteenth century.
