Radiolaria are single-celled ocean creatures the size of a speck of dust, and each one spins itself a mineral skeleton of almost unbelievable geometric intricacy — spheres inside spheres, radiating spines, lattices like blown glass. Haeckel, who first described hundreds of species, arranged them here in flawless symmetry across the plate, and in doing so made one of the most influential images in Art Forms in Nature. When the architect René Binet designed the gateway to the 1900 Paris World’s Fair, he modelled it directly on one of Haeckel’s radiolarians. Proof, drawn from a drop of seawater, that nature engineers beauty at every scale — even the ones no eye can see.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
