A chestnut stallion stands squared and still before the terraces of Powis Castle, posed for his build rather than for any race. Ward worked the stallion-portrait tradition Stubbs had set a generation earlier — a good horse's conformation read like a pedigree, and the seat's own walls stand in for a coat of arms. the level ground built up under the forelegs, laid there so nothing in the stance can be read as chance. Good breeding holds a pose.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
