In 1603 Johann Bayer produced the first atlas to chart the entire celestial sphere — and in doing so gave the stars a naming system astronomers still use four centuries later, lettering each constellation's stars by brightness with the Greek alphabet (Alpha, Beta, Gamma…). His engraved figures are among the most graceful ever drawn, the science and the art perfectly matched. Uranometria is where the modern map of the heavens truly begins — the foundation on which every star chart since has been built.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
