Steinlen’s poster advertising a touring revue from the Chat Noir cabaret, the black cat arched and staring straight out at the street. The Chat Noir was Montmartre’s own cultural engine, and Steinlen’s cat became one of the most recognized images to come out of it — advertising art indistinguishable from fine art. The cat’s eyes are the whole composition’s center of gravity — everything else is texture around that stare. A mascot that outlived the cabaret it advertised.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
