See pieces like it you can buyA Tokyo shopping street glows after night rain, lamplight sliding down the wet pavement between darkened eaves. By 1929 the new print had learned to see the modern city on its own terms — electric light, not lantern light — while the blocks, brushes, and barens were still those of Hiroshige’s workshops. The reflections are printed as long vertical pulls of tone, wiped softer than the lamps they mirror; the street reads wet because the light is doubled, not because water is drawn. “The rain has stopped. The street remembers it a while longer.”
