Green and chocolate barred petals around a broad white lip streaked with violet, and a hyacinth scent that arrives before the plant is in sight. Curtis's Botanical Magazine has appeared continuously since 1787 and is the longest-running botanical periodical in the world; every plate is a portrait of a specific plant that flowered on a specific date in a specific collection. The magazine is a two-hundred-year record of what was blooming, and where.
