The dragon arum sends up a dark purple hood nearly a metre tall with a near-black spadix standing in it, and for about one day it produces a smell of rotting meat strong enough to clear a garden. The smell is the mechanism: it draws carrion flies, which are trapped overnight in the base of the hood, dusted with pollen, and released. It is genuinely magnificent and nobody wants it near a window. Some flowers advertise to bees. This one advertises to flies.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
