Kokusenpū Riki — the “Black Whirlwind,” the novel’s berserker — storms into the fight with an axe in each fist. Bakin’s translations had made the Water Margin Edo’s favorite novel, and readers loved its wildest hero best: loyal beyond reason, violent beyond restraint, and drawn by Kuniyoshi at maximum. The silhouette is built from the two axe-arcs — the figure carved as pure motion, nothing at rest anywhere on the sheet. Loyalty, with an axe in each hand.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
