Aconite is the most poisonous plant commonly grown in temperate gardens — the root will kill an adult, and the alkaloid is absorbed through the skin, so gardeners are told to wear gloves to divide it. It is also one of the loveliest things in a border in late summer, a deep hooded blue on a tall spike. Thornton draws the hood, which is a modified sepal built as a landing platform for bumblebees. The most beautiful blue in the border is the one you must not handle.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
