Toadflax grows on English roadsides and looks like a small yellow snapdragon; a bumblebee has to force the closed mouth of the flower open to get in, which is why the plant is pollinated by heavy bees and nothing else. Thornton gives it a full plate with its parts laid out along the edge, in a book otherwise crowded with tropical spectacle. He knew where the interesting mechanisms were. The most ingenious flower in the book grows in a ditch.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
