Two tobacco species on one sheet, with the floral parts dissected along the margin. By 1800 this plant had reorganised the economies of three continents and the labour of millions of people, and a British botanical book of the period draws it as simply another interesting flower. The plate is beautiful and the silence around it is total — which is worth knowing while looking at it. Some plants are drawn without any of the reasons anybody cared about them.
