Andreas Vesalius's De Humani Corporis Fabrica (1543) is the single most consequential anatomy book ever printed — the work that broke with over a thousand years of anatomical teaching still based on Galen's animal dissections, replacing it with direct observation of the human body. This 'muscle man' plate, the fourth in a progressive series that peels the body layer by layer across the book's second volume, poses its flayed, muscle-stripped figure in a contrapposto stance against a real Italian landscape — a woodcut convention, likely designed with input from Titian's workshop, that turned clinical illustration into something closer to Renaissance portraiture. What to notice: the figure holds its own removed skin and stands as if still alive, mid-gesture — Vesalius insisted his illustrations show dissection as a living science in motion, not a static diagram of a corpse.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
