The steep drum bridge at Kameido arcs over green water, figures pausing at its crown — a subject Hiroshige had made famous seventy years before, re-crossed by the new print. Shin-hanga’s claim was continuity, not nostalgia: Yoshida, publishing from his own workshop, takes one of old Edo’s most beloved views and prints it with the layered light of a painter who had worked two hemispheres. The bridge’s reflection closes the arc into a full circle on the water — the carved structure above, the printer’s dissolving tones below. “A bridge is climbed on one side and remembered on the other.”

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
