Nobles ride out with hawks on their wrists and hounds coursing at their heels, while beyond them the Château d'Étampes rises on its rise of ground — a fortress the Duke had acquired in 1400 at the death of Louis d'Évreux, its keep and the surviving Tour Guinette still standing today. Behind the falconry party, the calendar's other August unfolds without pause: reapers cut grain, a cart hauls the harvest, and bathers cool themselves in a stream, one clambering out as another tumbles in — genre comedy tucked into the corner of an aristocratic scene. The zodiac lunette turns Leo into Virgo, the harvest maiden holding her sheaf of wheat. Where July showed the Duke's land feeding his table, August shows his court at leisure upon it — hawking above, harvesting below, the whole social order visible in a single gold-lit field.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
