Steinlen’s dairy advertisement for "Lait pur de la Vingeanne stérilisé," showing children and cats gathered around a bowl of milk. Steinlen turned even a milk ad into observed, affectionate street life — the same eye he brought to the Chat Noir. The cats are individually characterized, not decorative filler. The most ordinary errand, drawn like it mattered.
