The lithographed poster for Robert Wiene’s Das Cabinet des Dr. Caligari — the film that invented cinematic Expressionism, its painted world of leaning walls carried straight onto the sheet. Caligari made the screen a place where sets could be mad. Its posters are among the first to treat film advertising as avant-garde art rather than announcement. Nothing stands upright. The lettering tilts with the architecture; the whole image seems to have been drawn during an earthquake and framed anyway. You must become Caligari.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
