The variety painted like nobility: leaf, cluster, and cane in chromolithograph, from the seven-volume monument of the vine. The Ampélographie portraitized the grapes themselves — science commissioned like court painting. The translucency of the berries — stone printing chasing sunlight through skin. Every bottle has an ancestor portrait.
