See pieces like it you can buyA German placard for the 1917 sequel to the lost 1915 Golem film, designed by Paul Scheurich, a graphic artist better remembered now for porcelain figures than for film advertising. This is the middle film of the Golem cycle and the one nobody keeps — a self-aware comedy in which the figure appears as a costume. Its survival is almost entirely in paper like this. The poster is the film. Scheurich draws with a decorative, almost eighteenth-century line, which sits oddly and wonderfully against the monster it is selling. A lost film, held upright by its own advertising.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
