Moor’s Civil War recruitment poster — a Red Army soldier pointing directly at the viewer, the question printed beneath him in bold red type. One of the most direct pieces of Soviet graphic design of the Civil War period, and — unlike some of this wing’s other candidates — cleanly hosted on Commons with no outstanding Russian-copyright caveat (Moor died in 1946). The pointing hand is the entire composition’s vanishing point — every line in the poster leads to it. A question aimed at whoever is standing in front of it.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
