See pieces like it you can buyA chromolithograph issued in Leningrad by Mezhrabpom-Rus in 1927 for the Soviet release of a German film. Imported pictures were a substantial part of Soviet exhibition through the 1920s, and studios routinely commissioned entirely new domestic posters rather than reprinting foreign ones. The result is a genuinely Soviet graphic object attached to a foreign film. The tall, narrow proportion of the sheet, which forces the composition into a vertical stack rather than a centred scene. A foreign story, redrawn in the local accent.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
