See pieces like it you can buyA German placard of 1924 designed by Theo Matejko, whose loose reportorial line dominated German film advertising through the middle of the decade. By 1924 the German industry had settled into a house manner for its adventure and sensation pictures, and Matejko largely was that manner. Seeing him beside the Expressionist campaigns clarifies what was radical about them and what was simply the trade. The title is set to be read across a street at speed: one word, oversized, doing the entire job of identification. A whole picture compressed into a single spoken name.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
