See pieces like it you can buyA 1928 German placard for the Ufa production Geheimnisse des Orients, designed by the Austrian-German painter Franz Theodor Würbel. Directed by Alexandre Volkoff and made largely by émigré Russians working in Berlin and Paris, this is one of the last great silent fantasy spectacles before sound closed the form down. Its production history is a map of interwar European exile. By 1928 the placard has become poised and pictorial — the jagged handmade urgency of 1920 has been smoothed into professional studio advertising. The fantastic, at the very end of its silence.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
