See pieces like it you can buyA 1916 Italian screening poster for Nino Oxilia's L'Italia s'è desta!, printed by the Regie Officine Tipografiche. Italy entered the war in 1915 and its film industry turned immediately to patriotic production. Oxilia — a poet and director who would be killed at the front in 1917 — made this one; the sheet is a document of cinema conscripted. The typography carries most of the weight. Wartime paper and press time were scarce, and the design economises accordingly. A country waking itself up, in the year it could least afford to.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
