This is a "Fall" scene — one of the Stations of the Cross, showing Christ physically buckling under the weight of the crossbeam on the road to Calvary — painted with the full brocateado gold treatment usually reserved for Marian icons. Applying that luxurious, light-catching technique to a scene of suffering and collapse is a deliberate, striking choice: gold as reverence, even at the moment of greatest human vulnerability. Devotional titles like "the Lord of the Fall" name a specific miracle-working statue or painting that had its own following, its own feast day, its own reputation — this canvas both reproduces that specific image and imports its devotional authority into a new household or chapel. Look at the gold tooling on Christ's robe against the raw exhaustion in the pose — the painting is holding both at once, and refuses to resolve the tension.
