Mihály Bíró's 1927 poster for the Vienna premiere of Mädchenhandel — Eine internationale Gefahr, a film on international trafficking. The Aufklärungsfilm — the 'enlightenment picture' — occupied a peculiar zone between social reform and commercial sensation, and its advertising had to do both jobs at once. Bíró's sheet is the clearest surviving instance of that double register. How little the design explains. A single figure and a title were expected to carry a subject the poster could not name outright. Reform and exploitation, printed in the same ink.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
