Grasset brought a medieval-manuscript sensibility to the commercial poster — stained-glass color, heavy outline — a different Belle Époque hand than Chéret’s. Flat decorative pattern treated as seriously as the central figure. An illuminated manuscript, selling books instead of scripture.
