An autotype sheet, 107.5 by 62 cm, published by Mezhrabpom-Rus in 1926 in an edition of 15,000, printed at the Iskra Revolyutsii chromolithography of Mospoligraf. Pudovkin's Mother is the film against which Soviet montage theory was tested and argued for a decade. This is one of the original release sheets — printed to be pasted up and destroyed, which is why so few survive. That this sheet is autotype rather than pure lithograph: it reproduces photographic tone, putting the film's own images on the wall rather than an artist's drawing of them. The photograph escaping the screen and going out into the street.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
