A 1919 poster for the First National short comedy, written and directed by its star. Sunnyside was made during a period of acute creative difficulty and is the odd one out in its author's run - a pastoral with a dream ballet sequence owing an open debt to Nijinsky. It shows a comedian reaching for something he had not tried before, and not quite closing his hand on it. The pastoral setting worked into the design, quite unlike the urban register the same comedian's advertising usually took. A daydream in the middle of a working day.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
