Bonnard’s advertisement for France-Champagne — a woman’s wild silhouette rendered in loose, calligraphic lithographic line. Toulouse-Lautrec reportedly saw this poster on a Paris wall and decided on the spot to take up poster-making himself — a direct line from this sheet to Moulin Rouge. The lettering is drawn, not set — it moves with the same loose hand as the figure. The poster that started the decade that started the wing.
