A 1913 one-sheet for the six-reel white-slavery drama produced at Universal and directed by George Loane Tucker. Made semi-clandestinely for a few thousand dollars, it earned a reported fortune and helped break the industry's resistance to features. It is also the founding document of the American social-problem exploitation film — outrage as the ticket. The typographic scale of the title against the illustration: the words are doing the selling, because the subject could not be pictured directly. Scandal, priced by the seat.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
