A 1914 chromolithograph one-sheet, roughly 104 by 66 centimetres, for the World Film adaptation of Stowe's novel. Uncle Tom's Cabin was the single most filmed American subject of the early screen era. Its posters carried the melodrama's iconography — and its caricature — into every small-town lobby, and they document what mass audiences were sold as history. The chromolithographic register: each colour is a separately drawn stone, and the slight misalignments at the edges of the figures are the printer's hand, not damage. A nation's most-told story, still being argued with in ink.
