The Dutch on the ice, colf clubs in hand — the game’s frozen ancestor, painted before there was a rulebook to break. The house opens here on purpose: before the links, the ice; before the rulebook, the winter afternoon. The colf players share the ice with skaters, gossips, and dogs — the game began as part of the crowd. Every game was once just what people did with a cold afternoon.
