A 1654 engraving titled, plainly, the game of kolf: players, clubs, and the stake being argued over. Naming matters in a provenance house. This is the old game captioned as itself, in its own century, in its own language. There is money on the ground. The wager is as old as the swing. Nobody has ever played this game for nothing.
