A terracotta bell-krater — the wide bowl in which wine was mixed with water before the drinking began — by the hand known as the Methyse Painter. A faithful reproduction of a public-domain work in The Metropolitan Museum (CC0). No house treatment; the painter’s own line, five centuries before Christ. The painter is named for Methyse — “Drunkenness” — a maenad on another of his pots. Civilisation was the ratio of water to wine.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
