Wybrand de Geest’s 1631 portrait of a boy holding his kolf club, painted with full formal seriousness. Not a genre scene but a commissioned portrait — meaning a family paid to have the game recorded as part of who their son was. He holds the club the way sitters hold swords and books: as an attribute, not a tool. The game was already something a family wanted on the record.
