Grasset’s poster for his own exhibition at the Salon des Cent, Paris’s premier poster-art gallery. The Salon des Cent existed to show that posters belonged in a gallery at all — Grasset’s own announcement for it is the argument made literal. The same stained-glass heaviness of line as his Librairie Romantique plate, applied here to his own name. The medium, vouching for itself.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
