Pieter Claesz’s laid table: a green roemer of white wine at the left, a tall façon-de-Venise glass of red beside a raised pie, olives and lemon and bread, a pewter wine flagon leaning at the right. The Dutch invented the picture that counts your pleasures back to you — every glass a different wine, every metal a different shine. A faithful reproduction of a public-domain painting at The Art Institute of Chicago. Two glasses, two wines, one flagon to refill them — the whole evening is already on the cloth. Abundance painted this quietly is the surest kind.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
