Cézanne’s famous unstable table: the basket spilling apples, the cloth in stiff folds, the plate of biscuits sliding — and one dark wine bottle standing perfectly upright in the middle of it. The picture that broke the horizon line and started modern painting; the bottle is the one thing Cézanne let stay vertical.
