A terracotta volute-krater with its stand — the most architectural of the wine-mixing vessels, its handles scrolling up above the rim. A faithful reproduction of a public-domain work in The Metropolitan Museum (CC0). A bowl this ceremonial was the centrepiece; the wine it mixed was the evening’s whole argument. Some vessels exist to make the pouring an event.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
