Cappiello's imp — "lo spiritello" — leaping from a spiral-peeled orange with a glass held high, arguably the single most reproduced image in Italian advertising history. Campari is a live, actively-sold global mark today — this piece hangs strictly as art history, the poster and not the pour, the same house rule that governs the Champagne Wall. The negative space Cappiello leaves around the imp — almost nothing else on the sheet, the whole sale made by one figure and one color. The mascot era, mid-stride.
