The 22nd of April, 1923, at the Stade Pershing. Switzerland were the best teachers France had: neutral through the war, organised early, and close enough to play often. The two met almost every year through the 1920s, and the French game measured itself against the result. What this plate shows is a Sunday international treated as routine — no coronation, no monarch, just two national sides and a Paris crowd on a spring afternoon. Routine is how a sport becomes permanent. Within a year Switzerland would be in an Olympic final. The rivalry that improves you is the one you play every year.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
