The 28th of May, 1921, at Colombes: a Glasgow club against a Paris club. The Scots mattered out of all proportion to their size in this story, because the passing game — the short ball, the moving triangle, football as a team problem rather than a dribbling contest — was worked out in Scotland in the 1870s and carried everywhere by Scottish players and Scottish touring sides. What the Continent learned, it largely learned in a Scottish accent. This Agence Rol plate catches one of those lessons in progress, on a ground that would host the Olympic final three years later.
