The 19th of March, 1925, at the Stade Buffalo. Uruguay had won the Olympic tournament at Colombes nine months earlier playing football nobody in Europe had seen before — quick, close, technically outrageous — and they returned to France as the most instructive team on earth. This is what a paying Paris crowd turned out for: not a rivalry, a lesson. Five years later the same country would host and win the first World Cup, and the line between the two runs directly through afternoons like this one. The Agence Rol plate holds it at 8,500 pixels. Uruguay did not join European football. It corrected it.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
