A 1905 advertisement for Old Valley Whiskey (Continental Whiskey Co., Seattle), printed in Polk's Seattle City Directory — the whiskey trade as it appeared to an ordinary reader looking up an address. The Continental Whiskey Co. mark did not survive Prohibition; it is a dead Pacific-Northwest brand from the last years before the drought. A directory advertisement, not a poster — the everyday, unglamorous face of a trade that mostly advertised itself in small type next to the listings. Not every ghost got a poster. Some only got a line in the directory.
