The eleven who won at Colombes on the 9th of June, 1924, photographed in the standard pose on the ground where they did it. Six of them would still be playing when Uruguay won the first World Cup at the Estadio Centenario in 1930 — José Nasazzi, José Andrade, Héctor Scarone among them — which makes this the earliest photograph of the side that would go on to win everything twice. Andrade, the first great black footballer of the international game, is in it. Look at this one next to the 1930 final and count the faces you recognise. The same eleven men, twice, six years apart.

Before a size goes on sale, the file is measured against it: pixels per inch at that size, how much of the picture a crop would lose, tone and sharpness. A size that fails is not offered, so there is nothing to choose wrong.
